I. Registration

1. What preparation should be done before registration?

1) Lodging Registration: Register at the deception desk if you lodge on campus. Or go to register in the local 

police station off campus. Take the Registration Form of Temporary Residence from the police station. 

Memorize your detailed address and telephone number. 

2) 6 white-background color photos, about 35*50mm, as in the passport.

3) Passport.

4) Visa Application Form JW202 or JW201. 

5) Admission Notice.

6) Tuition, registration fee and insurance fee.

2. Place: Building 200

3. Time: Monday to Friday, 1st week: 9:00-11:30, 13:30—16:00

Usually, Mon.-Wed.: Registration;

Thu.: Placement Test, 

Fri.:  Health Check and buy text books 

Later coming newcomers may go to room 112, but not on weekends. 

4. Inquiry and Reception:

Produce your Admission and JW201/JW202, confirm your Student ID number (SIDN). Write your Chinese name if you already have one. Ask the teacher at the information desk to give you one if not. Then pay the tuition or get your scholarship if you have one. Finally, go to register. If you haven't applied yet, you have to apply at first. 

5. Tuition: 

Prepare your Chinese name and student ID number, pay your tuition.

Note: After paying the tuition, if you want to cancel your study before the beginning of class, you can get all the tuition back except the registration fee. Within two weeks after the beginning of class, you can only get the remains after being charged 20% of the full tuition. After two weeks, no study cancellation application is accepted, only the application of school suspension is accepted. 

6. How much should I pay?

Insurance: RMB 400 yuan/semester

Registration fee: RMB 400 yuan (only for the 1st semester),

Tuition: RMB 8300-15000 yuan each semester; Read the details in the Table 2,  (Unit: Chinese Yuan)

Tuition for short-term study: 850/week, from the 3rd week: 700/week 

7. Is there a discount for students from sister universities? 

Students of sister universities who apply directly (not by agency) to our university, may have a 10% discount. 

Apply through the sister universities, do as the documents require.

8. If I am late to register, can I have a discount?

Only the newcomers, if they come 5 weeks later, can have 10% discount. 9 weeks 20% discount. Those who study less than 3 months can be charged short-term tuition.

9. Can I pay the tuition in US dollars?

Sorry, you can't. Please change your money into Chinese money first, and then come to pay the tuition in Chinese Yuan (RMB).

10. I haven't got my money yet, can I pay the tuition later?

Yes, you may, but only partial. You may fill in a form. From the 2nd day of class, 2O/oo of the remaining tuition  (at least 10 yuan) will be charged. You visa cannot be extended, or only a short period (1 or 2 month) visa can be given before the whole tuition is paid.

11. Registration / SIDC (6 photos needed)

Produce your tuition invoice (if the tuitions of two semesters have been paid, remind the teacher), insurance receipt, passport, Admission Notice and JW201/202, fill in the forms, sign, stick the photo, make a SIDC, and put a registration seal. Please take back your passport and tuition invoice, and memorize your SIDN.

II. Visa and Residence Permit (RP)

1. X1, X2 visa and Residence Permit

If you hold X1 visa, you will need to apply for Residence Permit in the following 30 days after your entry.

If you hold X2 visa, and the validity of the X2 visa is longer than your study period here, you can keep your X2 visa with no need to change it. However, if you stay in China for more than six months, you have to extend it or apply for the Residence Permit.

2. When do the newcomers apply for the RP?

When they come to the office to register, they may be issued a visa application certificate, with which and other necessary documents, they are required to go the PSB to apply for a RP. It may cost about 13yuan to go to the PSB by taxi.

3. What should I take for visa or RP extension?

1)Regular passport and its copy

3)Certificate issued by the office (yellow sheet)

4)Visa and RP application form(with one passport-size color photo)

5)Registration Form of Temporary Residence (read page 28)

6)Visa Application form JW201/JW202 ( for the 1st time in a new school only)

7)Health Certificate issued by Jiangsu International Travel Healthcare Center (JITHC, read page 35)

8)About 400 yuan.

4. Where to apply for Residence Permit?

The Exit & Entry Administration, Nanjing Public Security Bureau.

Address: No.1 Honggongci, Sanyuanxiang.

Telephone: 025-84420005.

Service Time: 8:30-11:30, 14:00-17:00, Monday to Saturday.

Transportation: Taxi, about 13 yuan.

5. Must I go to the PSB in person?

Yes, you must. A photo of you must be taken in the computer on the spot.

6. When can I get my passport back?

In about 5 working days, with the receipt of the passport and the invoice (the money you paid) you may get your passport back from the PSB.

Note:

Pay close attention to the valid date of your passport, visa or RP. If they are invalid, you may be served a warning or even fined 500 yuan per day for the period of your illegal stay in China with the total sum of fine not exceeding 10000 yuan, or detained from 5 to 15 days. If your offences are serious, you may at the same time be ordered to leave the country within a specified time.

7. How can my family extend the visa?

If a family member has the Family Membership Approval (FMA) authenticated by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate, together with the visa-extension approval certificate issued by the office, the family member can apply for a RP in PSB. Otherwise, if no FMA, the family members can only apply for an L visa with the valid period less than 3 months. Those with an Official Passport but free visa cannot extend their visa.

8. Why is my RP valid only for half a year while the others’ are valid one year or even longer?

It depends on the student type, tuitions paid, duration of insurance and their class attendance. Read the details in “Rules for the Visa of Foreign Students in NNU”.
